The Eloisa Espoo action plan opened on Espoo Day, 31 August 2024
Vibrant Espoo organized a diverse range of programs in Tapionpuisto, Tapiola, on Espoo Day, August 31st. The launch of the Vibrant Espoo action plan was also celebrated at the same time.
The opening of the action plan on Espoo Day, August 31st, also marked the moment when Vibrant Espoo moved into concrete actions. In the autumn of 2024, community-based afforestation volunteer work was organized in Nupuri. A concrete action also includes the seating area produced in collaboration with the Finnish company Parkly, which was brought to the Tapiola event area during August 2024, bringing a small piece of local nature into the heart of the urban landscape. During the autumn, we will also collaborate with the Student Union of Aalto University (AYY). We welcome proposals for concrete nature-positive actions to be carried out in the Espoo area.
You can find more detailed information about the program for upcoming event days and voluntary work on the "Events and Voluntary Work" tab.
Background of the Action Plan
The Vibrant Espoo action plan is based on the decision made by the Espoo City Council on December 7, 2022, regarding additional appropriations for the periods 2023–2025. The appropriation is directed towards the planting of trees, shrubs, and other plants, as well as the establishment of meadows. The use of the appropriation shall be implemented as "diverse cooperation with the city, residents, organizations, educational institutions, and businesses" in accordance with the Espoo Story, as the City Council outlined in its interim report on September 12, 2022.
The aim is to widely increase the greenery, comfort, and beauty of urban and natural spaces in the Espoo area, and at the same time, these greening efforts will serve as part of Espoo's climate change actions. In accordance with the City Council's wishes, the use of the appropriation is planned in cooperation with the City of Espoo's cross-administrative Sustainable Espoo and Community-driven Events Espoo programs.
The project is coordinated by the cultural cooperative Ziran. Experts from City Events and the City Engineering Center are involved in the action plan as representatives of the City of Espoo. The project is tentatively scheduled for the operating periods 2024–2025, with the former primarily focused on planning and coordination. Concrete actions will commence from Espoo Day on August 31st.
