Eloisa Espoo (Vibrant Espoo) is a project aimed at implementing meadow restoration and establishment measures, tree plantings, and potential afforestation projects in the Espoo area, while actively involving residents. The project will produce experiential environmental events, art, nature-focused actions, and information throughout 2024 and 2025. The project is implemented by the Cultural Cooperative Ziran.
We are doing this in close cooperation with various units of the City of Espoo.
Background of the project
The Vibrant Espoo action program was launched after the Espoo City Council approved additional appropriations for planting trees, shrubs, and other plants, as well as establishing meadows, for the years 2023-2025 on December 7, 2022. Furthermore, in its interim report on September 12, 2022, the council stipulated that the appropriation should be used in "diverse cooperation with the city, residents, organizations, educational institutions, and businesses, in accordance with the Espoo Story."
The goal of the action program is to broadly enhance the greenery, pleasantness, and beauty of urban and natural spaces in the Espoo area. Simultaneously, these green initiatives serve as part of Espoo's climate change actions. As requested by the council, the appropriation is planned in collaboration with the cross-administrative programs Sustainable Espoo and Events and Community in Espoo.
The objective is to increase Espoo residents' sense of ownership of their local nature, improve the pleasantness and resilience of green areas in the face of climate change, and engage Espoo residents in maintaining their residential areas through volunteer-driven events, as well as actions planned and implemented within the program.
