New seating areas green up urban space in Tapiola

A test period is underway in the Tapiola garden city, where Vibrant Espoo and Parkly have collaborated to create a green seating area to enliven the area. The diverse seating area offers an opportunity for both a brief sit-down and a longer relaxation among plants. The seating area can be found in front of Tapionpuisto at Tapionaukio 11.

The purpose of the autumn 2024 sustainable test period is to investigate, whether small garden-like islands introduced into the urban environment increase the presence of local nature and the feeling of community in the everyday life of ordinary Espoo residents. Decisions regarding the continuation of the seating area project for the 2025 season will be made based on the results of the test period.

The seating area has been constructed using Parkly's innovative and modular public space furniture. Parkly is a Finnish company founded in 2021, whose goal is to bring people together one bench at a time. Parkly's modular furniture supports the principles of circular economy and sustainable development. The Espoo City's Green Unit is responsible for the maintenance of the plants integrated into the seating areas.
