Kasvu

Nature and music meet in a powerful experience as the five-member band Kasvu weaves together the roots of folk music with today’s stories. This quintet, skillful at creating evocative moods, performs on the Puutarhafest stage on Saturday, August 30th, from 16:30 to 17:15.

Kasvu is led by singer-folk musician Lotta Hagfors and is a band inspired by the diversity of nature. Kasvu’s repertoire consists of songs, acoustic contemporary folk music, and minimalist, cinematic soundscapes. The music creates a space where folk poetry meets insightful modern wordcraft: in songs based on the ancient Finno-Ugric worldview, the relationship between humans and trees, plants, rocks, and animals is explored. New lyrics for the project have been contributed by, among others, award-winning poet and climate activist Henriikka Tavi, as well as members of the band.

Our environment is changing ever more rapidly, and local biodiversity is under threat both ecologically and culturally. The climate crisis is an existential trauma for humanity that shadows our relationship with nature. Kasvu invites the listener to pause and engage with the most important issue of our time, giving space to emotions, change, and growth connected to the state of our planet. It is a powerful plea for the preservation of swamps and old-growth forests – a musical love letter to biodiversity.
