Espoo Day Evening 31.8.2024

Once Upon a Time In a Forest is presented as an open-air show.

Vibrant Espoo and Espoo Ciné present Virpi Suutari's film "Once Upon a Time In a Forest" on the evening of Espoo Day, Saturday, August 31st, in Tapiola.

Following five young forest activists – Ida, Minka, Otto, Ville, and Otso – the film takes the viewer to snow-covered fells, forest industry meeting tables, underwater, and into the activists' tent to whisper secrets into each other's ears. The young people's discussions and the documentary's almost breathtakingly beautiful images shake us to confront the distress of our dwindling forest nature. At the same time, Suutari's humane approach gives her subject room to breathe.

The evening will begin at 8 PM with an introduction by Helena Kääriäinen, research professor, clinical geneticist, and gene researcher, representing the Activist Grannies movement. The Activist Grannies movement was founded in 2019 when a group of grandmothers noticed that only young people were speaking out about their concern for climate change. Activist Grannies want to secure a viable world for all grandchildren. The evening's speech will address the impacts of climate change on human health and well-being. The film will be shown after the speech, at approximately 8:40 PM. The screening will take place on the Sun Terrace by the Tapiola pool. The event is part of Vibrant Espoo's activities and the Espoo Ciné film festival. The purpose of Vibrant Espoo is to promote the well-being and biodiversity of nature through activities that involve residents.
